We'll be making improvements to the Open Energy Dashboard data visualization project. A suggested first issue is "standard choices for sec. in rate" (#1216). Our team has been assigned to enhance the "sec. in rate" option within the create/edit unit customizations, ensuring an effective user experience.
How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?
We had very little experience coding with react or doing any major work with web-development , but working on this OED enhancement issue really helped us gain an interest for web-development. We used React, Typescript, and Redux to make drop-down menus for a "sec in rate" property within the Units section in OED so that admins have a easier time choosing standard or custom values when making a unit.
What challenges did you encounter?
We had trouble with understanding how to use React hookstate and how to code with TypeScript and React to create a drop-down menu. However, we got help from the OED maintainer and CodeDay's help desk to get us closer to our solution.
