We will make contributions to the open-source project "OTIO", which was created by Disney Pixar and used by much of Hollywood (and many amateur filmmakers) to manage their editing timelines.

We will start with the following issue as a starting point, but we can change issue depending on student interest. "BDD"
https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenTimelineIO/issues/1228

What tools did you use to create your project?

  • python

How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?

CodeDay Labs team in the advanced track.

I believe we both had some experience with class work and smaller personal projects. But this project had a very large existing codebase and tools related to the build and testing.

What challenges did you encounter?

The original issue assigned to us was interesting but not necessarily something that the maintainers wanted fixed. Originally the github issue post was started by a contributor who was asking for input on possibly rewriting all the Python testing, changing the testing type from test-driven-development to behavior-driven-development. One of the more active maintainers was against the change, but suggested migrating test files from unittest to the Pytest framework instead. That became our new issue, and from then on we worked on migrating several files to Pytest.
