Website that provides high school students greater access to resources and connects them to actual college professors for advice. The portal will also provide resources and links such as SAT/ACT prep guides, college major quizzes, volunteering/internship/scholarship opportunities and more. The product will utilize a chatbot to allow the professors and students to communicate. Additionally, to ease the stress high schoolers face, there is a mini game added to follow the theme of Fire vs. Ice.
How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?
Two team members had 2 years of experience while, two team members were brand new to programming. To work with each other, the team divided the project that would best suit our strengths as well as challenge us in both our programming skills and time management. To show the functionality of the site in the CMU sandbox, we used code that we had previously written before (in other projects), for the buttons. The name of the site was also produced from a random name generator to help decide the name quickly and without any waste of time.
What challenges did you encounter?
There were some technical challenges including, using incorrect syntax for writing the codes. The team members responsible for using the CMU sandbox were more familiar with Java rather than Python so, it took a while to adjust the syntax necessary, and some team members had never used the CMU platform before. To resolve these challenges, the team divided roles up based on experience and strengths. Two team members used Code.org to create the game while, the third team member worked on the overall design of the product. The fourth team member programmed the chatbot and, worked out the logistics of the website using the CMU sandbox, and worked with the third member to follow a specific design.
