sirtet!

CodeDay Fall 2021SF Bay Area(history) ∙
https://codeday.sh/tetris
hell on earth

this started as me trying to make extremely cursed tetris and then it started being a bit fun so i dialed down the cursed-ness

features include:
- upside-down lmao
- annoying sound effects
- violent vibrations
- lack of responsive web design
- full tetris implementation including proper locking delays!
- scoring and a level system based on nes tetris
- vaguely cool looking blocks
- pain and suffering
- double the falling tetrominos
- fully organic, home-grown sound design
- broken colliders, i promise it's a feature and not a bug!

(ok but actually it's more fun that way and actually not actually easier to implement)

How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?

i have ALL THE EXPERIENCE. nah jk i learned p5 which i haven't actually used before. i also learned a huge amount about the rules of tetris and how it works internally. everything besides the graphics library is written from scratch.

What challenges did you encounter?

well, i started with a completely unrelated project but got bored. i started something new (this) and had a SIGNIFICANT number of hours less time. i also have absolutely no experience building 2d games, and i'm bad at algorithmic stuff like colliders.

... so don't look at the code. it's HORRIFYING. but hey, it's a hackathon!

i also tried to get post-processing and stuff to work for a while but everything was breaking and i didn't end up with the time to make it look snazzy.
