A consolidation of NASA APIs into short, factual, and visually-attractive stories!
How much experience does your group have? Does the project use anything (art, music, starter kits) you didn't create?
Krishnan Shankar: In the past, I knew how to set up a basic Flask website, and how to request information from APIs, but that's about where it ends. I had never used APIs in a project before, and I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to extract the data from the API call. Additionally, I never knew how inconsistent API data was. In terms of frontend design, all I knew was basic HTML, and I had no idea about styling and animating. During the hackathon, I got lots of experience with using APIs, extracting data from them, and using consistent fields. I also learned how to properly style a webpage to look professional and fun.
Shivam Suri: Before beginning this hackathon, I knew how to create projects using HTML, CSS, SQL, and Python Flask. During the hackathon, I learned how to fetch data from any API and convert it into text and images. Prior to the event, I only knew how to use the Flask Restful API, so this was the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge about API's. I also learned more about how to style a website and make it look very professional. I was not very good at styling a website before taking up this project.
Noel Jackson: Previously, I have done multiple different programs geared towards teaching programming, the most recent being this summer. During this, we worked on numerous projects and began to work on web development. The biggest challenge during this was working on animations as I am not that familiar with them. I learned how to do basic animations and learned a small bit about APIs.
Alex Kasprzak: I have taken coding classes such as AP Computer Science A, and website design, learning the languages Java, HTML, and CSS; I also learned C++ out of personal interest. What I learned working on this project is how to implement basic animation into websites, something useful for creating a very professional feel to a website. Some challenges I faced working on this was also the usage of animation; most require the usage of javascript, though I had very limited experience with this language.
